Choosing Yourself Better for a Modern Web Design

I was working on a redesign for a boutique online store that sells handcrafted jewelry. The goal was to create a brand experience that felt both elegant and approachable. As I started testing different fonts for the hero section, I came across Yourself Better. At first glance, it stood out with its playful yet refined character shapes and subtle swashes.

Yourself Better is a display font that brings a sense of personality to any digital layout. Its PUA encoding makes it easy to access all the glyphs and swashes, which was a relief when I wanted to experiment with variations for the headline. It has a modern, slightly whimsical feel that fits well with creative brands looking to stand out without being too over the top.

I decided to test Yourself Better in a few key areas of the site. For the hero section, I used it as the main headline over a full-width image of a necklace. The font’s curves and open counters made it legible even when placed against a dark background. It didn’t feel cluttered or hard to read, which was important since this was the first thing visitors would see.

Next, I tried using it for section headings throughout the site. In the product catalog, I paired it with a clean sans serif font like Helvetica Neue for body text. This contrast helped separate the headings from the content while keeping the design cohesive. The decorative flair of Yourself Better added visual interest without distracting from the product images or descriptions.

One thing I noticed early on was how well it performed on mobile screens. Even at smaller sizes, the font remained readable. I tested it in a few responsive layouts and found that it scaled nicely without losing its charm. This was crucial because a large portion of the store’s traffic came from mobile users.

For call-to-action buttons, I opted for a simpler sans serif typeface. Yourself Better wasn’t ideal for small buttons due to its more intricate details. However, I used it sparingly for decorative accents, such as in a “New Arrivals” banner or a promotional tagline. These uses added a touch of personality without compromising usability.

When it comes to branding, Yourself Better can be a great choice for logos, especially if the brand identity leans toward creativity or playfulness. I imagined using it for a logo that needed to feel both professional and unique. The font’s versatility allows it to work well in both editorial and commercial contexts, making it suitable for a wide range of projects.

I also considered font pairing options. Since Yourself Better is a display font, it pairs best with simpler, more legible fonts for body copy. A good combination could be a modern sans serif for paragraphs and Yourself Better for headlines or subheadings. This balance helps maintain readability while still allowing the brand to express its personality through typography.

Before finalizing the font for the project, I checked the available styles and webfont support. Yourself Better offered several weights and alternates, giving me flexibility in how I used it across the site. I also confirmed that it had proper multilingual support and a commercial license, which was essential for ensuring compliance with client requirements.

Overall, Yourself Better brought a fresh and engaging feel to the boutique website. It helped elevate the brand’s visual hierarchy, making key messages stand out while maintaining a polished look. Whether used for headlines, banners, or decorative elements, it contributed to a more cohesive and memorable user experience.

If you’re working on a creative project that needs a font with character, Yourself Better is worth considering. Its blend of fun and elegance makes it a versatile choice for a variety of digital designs—from landing pages to blog headers and everything in between. Just remember to pair it wisely and always prioritize readability, especially for longer blocks of text or smaller screen sizes.
